KLANG: There are still many who are against being vaccinated, believing that they are under no risk of getting infected.
Given this mindset among Malaysians at a time when there is a health crisis, the government should look into making inoculation compulsory for everyone, said Malaysian Society of Infectious Diseases and Chemotherapy president Dr Zamberi Sekawi.
“Generally, people cannot be forced to get themselves vaccinated due to human rights and patient autonomy issues.
“Even the World Health Organisation said last year that people must not be compelled to be vaccinated.
“But under the current situation whereby our intensive care units are full and treatment is being compromised because of this, I personally believe the government must make vaccination compulsory for all, ” he said.
Citing the stock position, Atishi further said, “For the 45 plus category, 2,98,540 doses are left, and nearly 2,92,630 are of Covishield, and 5910 are of Covaxin. Hence Covishield is available for 12 days, and Covaxin is nearly finished."
‘Delhi has not received any new supply of vaccines yet’
There was no free vaccination, either Covishield or Covaxin, for the 18-44 age group in Delhi government schools for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, said AAP leader Atishi.
“This is the fourth day of no vaccination for 18-44 group in any of the government schools of Delhi. Both Covaxin and Covishield’s stock has ended for the youth. This is a cause of concern as youth was the only group which does not have any vaccine hesitancy and has been coming in large numbers to register themselves on CoWIN and getting vaccinated,” Ms. Atishi said.
