Parnika Srivastava NOIDA: For 16-year-old Parnika Srivastava who took up basketball only as a fun sport, being selected for the NBA Academy Women’s Virtual Program is a big step towards playing at the international level. The Class 11 girl who studies in DPS, Noida, is among five Indians to get selected for the programme that started this month. Parnika started playing basketball when she was in Class 4. “Since I was taller than most other students in my class, I was better at handling the ball. With time, I got more interested in the game. My school coach noticed that and asked me to start playing regularly. That is when I told my parents about my interest in the sport and I started coaching every morning and evening,” said Parnika, standing tall at 6 feet.

In order to maintain continuity and keep alive the interest and motivation among the Basketball family in India during the prevalent uncertain times of the COVID19 pandemic spread across the world, BFI started the Online Education Program for Coaches, Referees, Table Officials and Statisticians on Zoom from May 13 onwards in which up to 500 participants can attend. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) coaches as well as Diploma trainees are also asked to join these sessions.
