UPDATE: Next up for the Flames (9-3 overall, 5-0 District 4-2) is Galveston O’Connell College Prep in a Saturday, March 6, matchup at 5 p.m. at Brenham High School, 525 A.H. Ehrig Drive in Brenham.
Against Shiner St. Paul, the Flames throughout the game, though each time Faith looked to put it away, the Cardinals fought back to stay within striking distance.

A pair of El Paso high school basketball teams are still alive and have advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Texas State basketball playoffs following their respective wins over the weekend.
The Chapin Huskies will face Mansfield Summit in the Class 5A ranks, while Americas squares off against Dallas Jesuit representing Class 6A. Both games will take place on Tuesday evening at neutral sites.

The Huskies (21-1) got past the Indians with ease on Saturday in the regional quarterfinals. Chapin, who is ranked as the top team in the city and the 19th overall squad by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, never trailed against Ysleta, beating them 76-41 in Fabens.

Syracuse, N.Y. Syracuse senior guard Tiana Mangakahia is one of five finalists selected for the 2021 Nancy Lieberman Award, announced Monday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
It’s the second time in her career that she’s been named a finalist for the award, given to the nation’s best point guard in women’s college basketball.
