Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 23) The country s borders may be closed amid the rising cases of the Delta coronavirus variant, President Rodrigo Duterte disclosed to CNN Philippines in an exclusive phone call on Thursday night.
He said he will call for an emergency meeting with the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force and medical experts on Saturday.
The chief executive said the government may impose more stringent measures compared to the existing protocols, but he wants to hear the input of medical experts first before coming up with a drastic decision.
Duterte said he is concerned about reports of how the highly contagious Delta variant has been affecting other countries like Australia and Indonesia.

According to the Alliance of Health Workers, as of June 30, some health workers from public hospitals only got 30 percent of the funds recalled from the DOH for their meal, accommodation, and transportation (MAT) benefits for the period of September to December 2020.
The other 70 percent of the budget left intended for health workers’ accommodation and transportation allowance “were withheld by the DOH,” while January to June 2021 MAT benefits “are yet to be released.”
“Worse, our fellow health workers from the private and LGUs did not receive their MAT benefit covering the period from September-December 19, 2020. We call on the DOH to stop deceiving and dividing us, release the remaining budget for our accommodation and transportation so as the MAT of private and LGU health workers.” Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center Employees Union-AHW president Cristy Donguines said.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 29) The Department of Health has recommended ways vaccination sites can improve their operations to prevent a repeat of a lapse in a COVID-19 inoculation procedure recently in Makati City.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire told CNN Philippines The Source that the incident involving a volunteer nurse who failed to push the contents of a syringe into the arm of a vaccinee in Makati was purely a human error. The local government says it has conducted a probe into the matter. We want to emphasize that although this is a human error, we still cannot justify this and this cannot happen again, Vergeire said.
