Michels Corp becomes anchor tenant in Alliant Energy community solar project

Alliant Energy’s 1-MW community solar project in Fond du Lac, Wis., announced in December, found its anchor tenant this week in Michels Corp., which is committing to 30% of the project’s solar blocks. The diversified energy and infrastructure contractor has supported the project from the initial stages and is leasing the solar site to Alliant Energy. With Michels’ subscription, the total amount of solar blocks bought now exceeds 75%, just three months after launching the community solar project. The Fond du Lac Town Board gave formal approval to Alliant Energy’s Fond du Lac community solar project on March 8.SMA’s ShadeFix optimization produces more energy than traditional optimizers. ShadeFix also provides greater reliability and less service risk than alternatives.

Alliant Energy to build solar garden in Fond du Lac

FOND DU LAC - Alliant Energy is kicking off the company s new community-based solar program with a project in Fond du Lac that supports renewable energy. Alliant announced this week its plans to build a solar garden along the south side of U.S. 151 just west of the Hickory Road intersection on a 13-acre parcel leased from Michel’s Corporation, said company spokesperson Scott Reigstad.  Construction of the 1-megawatt community solar project is set to begin this spring for completion by the end of 2021. The energy generated will be distributed onto the power grid. “We are excited that our customers can sign up for our first community solar project and enjoy the benefits of receiving clean, renewable energy,” said David de Leon, president of Alliant Energy s Wisconsin energy company. “We anticipate that all blocks will be sold quickly due to a high level of participation and interest from customers.”

Alliant Energy to retire Wisconsin s coal-fired Columbia Energy Center in 2024

Alliant Energy to retire Wisconsin’s coal-fired Columbia Energy Center in 2024 Published on February 04, 2021 by Chris Galford © Shutterstock Alliant Energy announced Tuesday that it will retire its last coal-fired facility in Wisconsin by the end of 2024, as the company pivots toward meeting carbon goals and cutting costs. Had the 1,100 MW Columbia Energy Center, which began operation in 1975, continued to operate, Alliant would likely have had to pay more than $250 million to keep it going. The closure will also advance Alliant’s Clean Energy Vision, which calls for a 50 percent cut in CO2 emissions by 2030 and the elimination of all coal usage in generation by 2040.
