Now the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees Association is fighting back, with a new national advertising campaign urging customers to stop their shouting at shop staff.
Launched last week, the campaign will feature television, radio, digital and outdoor ads, all aimed at putting a stop to what it says is increasingly prevalence of verbal and physical abuse of workers in the fast food and retail sectors.

McDonaldâs wants the fast food industry to be included in consideration for simplified pay rules, warning businesses in the sector will face a tougher recovery without changes, and sparking a new battle over whether the fast food giant should be allowed to trade penalty rates for higher âloaded ratesâ.
From Thursday the Fair Work Commission will examine the pay rates of sectors including restaurants, clubs, hotels and retail, but the Fast Food Award has been excluded from the review, which is part of a government-backed plan to stop accidental underpayment by confused bosses and give businesses confidence to hire more staff.
