Ludhiana: The daylong bandh call by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) evoked a mixed response in the city on Friday as only a few markets closed and that too briefly. Confusion prevailed among several residents who were under the impression that public transport will also remain closed.
Office-bearers of CAIT claimed the bandh was hugely successful, and in accordance with the call given by confederation’s Punjab unit, dozens of businessmen, led by state president Harkesh Mittal, submitted a memorandum of demands to Tejbir Singh Sidhu, deputy commissioner, state tax, Ludhiana division. Businessmen also offered several suggestions regarding changes required in the GST laws and Sidhu assured them these would be conveyed to the senior officers.

The day-long Bharat Vyapar Bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) evoked a lukewarm response on Friday with most shops and commercial establishments open.
However, CAIT in a statement said the shutdown was a grand success as more than 8 crore small businesses belonging to about 40,000 trade associations across the country kept their shutters down and no trading activity took place in any commercial market.

The bandh was supported by the Kamrup Chamber of Commerce, Asom Jatiya Parishad, and the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.

New Delhi: Demonstrations are being held across the country in view of Bharat Bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on Friday against rising fuel prices and provisions of GST. Several protesting Kisan unions and around 40,000 trade associations have extended their support to the bandh.
While making an announcement regarding the bandh, CAIT issued a statement saying, We highly regret such a dismal attitude and picture of the GST which has compelled the trade union leaders attending the conference to call for a Bharat Trade Bandh. The Confederation also expressed concerns over the soaring diesel and petrol prices stating it was making the transport business inviable.
