2020 was supposed to be an action-filled year in sports with all eyes on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. However, Covid-19 Pandemic brought all action to a grinding halt with events either being postponed or cancelled.
The Parasport action was affected too. In that scenario, the achievements of a few Para athletes and the revocation of the suspension of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) remain the high points in Indian Parasports this year.
Among them, Para shuttler Manasi Jos hi’s resurgence stood out this year. Joshi continued to inspire her fellow para sportspersons with her extraordinary achievements one after the other. In a huge shot in her arm, the reigning world champion became the first ever Para athlete to feature in TIME magazine’s 2020 list of Next Generation Leader.

Nearly three-fourth of the respondents felt their firms’ business would be significantly impacted post the availability of a vaccine, with 35% of these firms expecting a return to normal growth levels within six months from this point.
Regarding the latest stimulus package or Atmanirbhar Bharat 3.0, 45% of firms saw the move as being ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, over half or 55% thought it was ‘average’, the survey showed.
Firms continued to see improvement in terms of capacity utilisation and sales as the unlock phase progressed, however, high managing costs and weak demand remain key issues for businesses, according to an industry survey conducted in December.

As per a survey by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Dhruva Advisors many companies are seeing some improvement on several fronts. “Nearly 50 percent of the companies have reported that they have seen an increase in their order books and about 40 percent have said that their exports have increased. In the August 2020 survey, the corresponding figures were 44 percent and 30 percent, respectively,” the survey said.

The pandemic was godsent for online gaming companies in India. The fledgling industry’s fortunes rose as millions of people forced to sit at home got hooked to their devices. Online gaming was a convenient source of distraction and, in some cases, also a way to make some money. The outlook for the industry was encouraging. A March 2020 report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry and EY said online gaming grew 40% in 2019 to reach Rs 6,500 crore in revenue.
