Exactly one week after a B.C. Indigenous community confirmed that the remains of 215 children some as young as three years old had been found on the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, both the harrowing legacy of the residential schools program and the ongoing legal battles over decades of inadequate support for First Nations children are poised to dominate the political agenda on Parliament Hill today, starting with a full day of debate on an omnibus opposition motion that issues a stark challenge to the minority Liberals to commit to “concrete actions for real reconciliation.”

OTTAWA An Alberta city has become the first in the country to have ended chronic homelessness, just as municipal leaders push the federal government to help do the same countrywide.
Medicine Hat first said in 2015 that it had ended homelessness in its city, but that was based on its own standards because none existed nationally at the time.
That has changed, and Wednesday the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness said Medicine Hat is now at what s called functional zero, meaning there are no more than three people experiencing chronic homelessness in a community for three straight months.
