Lloydminster joins Alberta communities in Keystone XL letter writing campaign

Lloydminster joins Alberta communities in Keystone XL letter writing campaign SHARE ON: A map showing the pipeline route. The City of Lloydminster is standing in solidarity with other Alberta communities in their call for the federal government to do more to aid the oil pipelines in the West. City council approved several motions in support of Cold Lake’s letter writing campaign at the regular meeting on February 16 in response to the U.S. government’s cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline expansion. Council will be sending a letter to U.S. politicians who plan to present legislation reversing President Joe Biden’s decision on the pipeline as well as a letter to TC Energy asking them to keep the current infrastructure in place in case the project is able to restart.

Former mayor Eaton presented with Municipalities of Sask award

In 2017, he was presented the Humboldt Citizen of the Year award at the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce Awards of Excellence event. “I feel honoured to be recognized by the people I worked with, both at the local council level as well as the [MoS] level,” Eaton said. “Nobody in the role of mayor or councillor does this by themselves, you’re always part of a team. I was very fortunate to be part of a great team of councillors and city staff.” Eaton first got into municipal politics in 2003 through a seat at Humboldt council. Three years later, he became the community’s mayor. He held that position before retiring in 2016.

Coun Magliocca still owes city $1,200 relating to improper expenses: Report

CALGARY Calgary Coun. Joe Magliocca still owes the city a little over $1,200 relating to ineligible expense claims dating back to 2017, according to a reported headed to the Priorities and Finance Committee next week. The expenses were related to hosting people and events between 2017 and 2019. The reports says that of $5,830.63 in expenses examined between 2017 and 2019, $3,366.30 was deemed to be ineligible. That, less the $2,159.05 already paid by Magliocca, leaves $1,207.25 left to be re-paid. The report also recommends that Mayor Naheed Nenshi send a letter to Magliocca outlining the findings by Feb. 26. The report says city administrators are working to rescind, harmonize and more closely align existing council expense policies.
