Image Source: IANS News Bengaluru, Jan 1 : The Karnataka Biodiversity Board (KBB) has urged the state government to declare sprawling 467.53 acre Roerich and Devika Rani Roerich Estate situated in southern part of Bengaluru as a Biodiversity Heritage Site under the Biodiversity Act 2002. The KBB also asked the government to discourage commercial tourism inside the estate as the estate is home to unique flora and fauna besides being an elephant corridor. This recommendation assumes significance in the backdrop of the Karnataka Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa announcement that he intends to convert this estate into a sprawling film studio.

Karnataka slashes user cess on APMCs from 1% to 0.60%   Mon, Dec 28 2020 08:34:32 PM From Our Special Correspondent Daijiworld Media Network Bengaluru, Dec 28: Karnataka has decided to slash the market user cess imposed in Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) from 1% to 0.60% of the transaction value. The decision taken at the state cabinet meeting presided by chief minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday is expected to benefit of 36,000 registered traders in 161 AMPCs in the state. The state government issued an order on December 15, 2020, and increased the user fee in APMCs to 1%. Traders demanded a total withdrawal of the hike in user cess and demanded a level playing field with the trade that occurs outside the APMC jurisdiction.
