Brussels: The Federation of German Industries (BDI) has urged Britain to stick to the post-Brexit trade deal ahead of a key debate and vote in the European Parliament on Tuesday to ratify the agreement. It is absolutely counter-productive that the British Prime Minister is constantly threatening to breach the agreement, BDI Managing Director Joachim Lang told Deutsche press agency (dpa).
Abiding by the agreement would strengthen trust in Britain as a place to do business, Lang asserted.
The EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement, which London has already ratified, conditionally came into force at the start of this year.

Speeding up integration EAC chief’s top priority
NEWLY appointed East African Community (EAC) Secretary General Dr Peter Mathuki, a Kenyan national, has kicked the ground running with the theme of speeding up the bloc’s integration.
At an evening reception organized here by the private sector at the weekend, Dr Mathuki said he will focus on achieving ease of doing business in line with the common market protocol.
The EAC is already a customs union and in principle geared to establishing a common market, and has also explored ways of forming a monetary union, the last format having died in 1966 paving the way for the creation of independent central banks in the region.

Brussels Negotiators from the EU states and the European Parliament have finally agreed to tighten the climate target for 2030. By then, the European Union’s greenhouse gases are to be reduced by at least 55 percent below the 1990 level. This was announced by several representatives of the European Parliament and the Council of Member States in Brussels early on Wednesday morning. So far, the target has been minus 40 percent.
After more than 15 hours of negotiations, the negotiators of the European Parliament finally accepted the brand that the EU heads of state and government had set at the end of 2020. The EU Parliament actually wanted a lot more: a 60 percent reduction in greenhouse gases and a more rigorous calculation method. The MPs only reached concessions in details.
