FMM tells members to tighten SOPs at workplace, workers quarters to help fight Covid-19

Tighter SOPs, not lockdown, answer to Malaysia s Covid-19 spike, says Azmin Ali

KUALA LUMPUR - International Trade and Industry Minister Azmin Ali waved away on Monday (Jan 25) calls for a total lockdown in Malaysia despite an unrelenting coronavirus outbreak, mooting instead more stringent procedures such as targeted testing and tighter distancing protocols. This comes after manufacturing trade associations over the weekend called on members to step up measures to reduce infections - the sector is responsible for nearly a third of over 300 active clusters - to avoid a shutdown of the economy as the current wave of the deadly virus has worsened despite Malaysia reimposing a movement control order (MCO) since Jan 13.

Several industry and government sources have confirmed to The Straits Times that the Health Ministry wants to impose a total lockdown on all economic activity.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 A second full lockdown will lead to irreparable damage to the business sector and the economy, with a devastating impact on business survival and job security, according to the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). Hence, FMM said it urged industries to give their fullest cooperation and play their part by taking the additional proactive and preventive measures to tighten the existing standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the workplace and living quarters of employees.

FMM urges members to play their part to curb Covid-19 and prevent any possible lockdown

PETALING JAYA: Manufacturers must do their part to help break the chain of Covid-19 infections or face the possibility of a total lockdown, cautions the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). FMM believes it is important for the current infections and clusters to be managed effectively so that the chain of infections be broken swiftly as the economy and the business sector would not be able to take another round of total lockdown similar to the movement control order in March 2020 that would have a devastating impact on business survival and security of jobs, FMM chief executive Yeoh Oon Tean said in a statement on Saturday (Jan 23).
