SELMA, Ala. (WSFA) - A century-old Confederate relic that made national headlines after being stolen from a Selma cemetery and held for ransom has been recovered. Two people have subsequently been arrested and charged.
The Jefferson Davis Memorial Chair, uprooted from the spot where it sat since 1893 in Old Live Oak Cemetery, was found 300 miles south in a tattoo parlor, according to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Selma Police Department.

SELMA, AL An anti-racism group calling itself White Lies Matter took responsibility in a letter to local media for stealing a Confederate monument last month in Selma, Alabama, and won t return it until its demands are met.
In the Monday letter, the group said it wasn t seeking cash in return for the monument, a stone chair honoring Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Instead, the group said it just wanted a Civil War historic preservation group to display a banner acknowledging America s original sin of slavery.

SELMA, Ala. (WSFA) - Selma police are investigating an odd âwhodunitâ after alleged thieves made off with a piece that had been quietly sitting for more than a century in a historic cemetery until March 19.

White Lies Matter is a group that claimed responsibility for the disappearance of a Confederate monument in Selma, Ala., that was dedicated to Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The group published a ransom letter in which it demanded that the headquarters of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in Richmond, Va., hang a banner that features an Assata Shakur quote.
