The Chairman and Publisher of the Guardian Newspapers, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru, has said a return to true federalism will solve the nation’s security and economic challenges.
She also urged the Federal Government to provide tax relief for the newspaper industry in the country.
Alex-Ibru stated this while delivering her address at a book presentation, ‘The Making of the Nigerian Flagship: The Story of the Guardian,’ at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.
The event was also used to celebrate the founding publisher of The Guardian, late Alex Uruemu Ibru.
Mrs Alex-Ibru said, “We would like the president, his men and women to note that restructuring of the federation in the context of federalism is an idea whose time has come and no politics could repel that idea. A return to true federalism will solve most of our security and economic challenges.

Even as it remains a collective struggle to build a nation with the bricks of mutuality, plurality and tolerance, the media, as gatekeepers in the fourth estate, must demonstrate a greater awareness of the society, while upholding the principles of balance, objectivity and fair-hearing, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Mr Osinbajo stated this on Thursday evening during the book launch and presentation of “The Making of the Nigerian Flagship, the Story of The Guardian,” which held at the Federal Palace Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
According to the Vice President, while it is true that the freedom of expression is enshrined in our constitution, society, progress, and order depend upon the responsible exercise of freedom, otherwise the end result will be anarchy.
