I since Secretary Granholm and Mayorkas have been here before, I will skip their introductions. But I do want to note that Deputy Secretary Turk was previously the Deputy Executive Director of the International Energy Agency during the Obama-Biden administration. He coordinated international technology and clean energy efforts at DOE, and served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director at the National Security Council.
Southeast sees gas shortages amid pipeline shutdown
Parts of the southeastern U.S. are seeing gasoline shortages following a cyberattack that shut down Colonial Pipeline.
As of Tuesday afternoon, nearly 8 percent of Virginia gas stations, nearly 9 percent of North Carolina gas stations and nearly 6 percent of Georgia gas stations were without fuel, according to GasBuddy. That s an increase from earlier in the day.
Gas prices also appeared to be somewhat higher, averaging almost $2.99 per gallon across the country, according to the American Automobile Association. This is up by about 2 cents from Monday and about 7 cents from a week ago.
It goes beyond cars: Fuel supply shortages from the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack are hitting airlines at a time when the industry is just beginning to emerge from the coronavirus recession.

East Coast Gas Stations Run Dry; Gas Prices Rise Over Colonial Pipeline Shut Down
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Gas stations along the U.S. East Coast, in particular, the parts of the Southeast, are running out of fuel as an after effect of supply cut from Colonial Pipeline that was shut down after a ransomware attack.
More than 12 percent of gas stations in North Carolina, 8.6 percent in Virginia, 8 percent in Georgia, and 5.9 percent in South Carolina have run dry of gasoline, according to GasBuddy, an app that tracks fuel prices and demand.
Long queues of vehicles waiting for refilling gasoline are reported across the eastern U.S. Panic buying is causing gas stations in the region to run out of stock.
