GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Federal Government is rolling out elections in three Federal Member States allied to Villa Somalia in the backdrop of mixed signals from President Mohamed Farmaajo and unrelenting pressure from opposition for talks, Goobjoog News can authoritatively report.
Sources privy to the proceedings at Villa Somalia have indicated that Farmaajo has ordered elections to proceed in South West, Galmudug, HirShabelle and Banaadir and Gedo regions even as a section of FMS leaders allied to the president said this week they were pushing for a climb-down by Farmaajo.
The elections, Goobjoog News has established will kick off in Galmudug (Dhusamareb and Galkayo), HirShabelle (Jowhar and Beledweyn), South West (Baidoa and Barawe) and Banadir and Gedo regions.
INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS URGE RESOLUTION OF ELECTORAL IMPASSE
Mogadishu – Somalia’s international partners are deeply concerned about the continuing impasse in implementing the electoral model agreed on 17 September by President Mohammed Abdullahi Farmajo and Federal Member State leaders.
We urge Somalia’s top political stakeholders to demonstrate leadership in the interest of the nation and to quickly resolve outstanding issues of implementation through dialogue and compromise, so that a credible electoral process can proceed as soon as possible.
The partners appreciate recent initiatives. In particular, they welcome the visit of Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble to Galmudug and Puntland; the discussions among a wide range of senior Somali leaders hosted in Garowe by Puntland President Said Deni; and the outreach by Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Karie ‘Qor Qor,’ who conveyed proposals from Garowe to Federal Government of Somalia leaders and other political figures.
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Three regional states presidents allied to outgoing President Mohamed Farmaajo last night met opposition presidential candidates in what signifies opening of talks amidst an ongoing electoral crisis.
Ahmed Qoor-qoor of Galmudug, South West’s Abdiaziz Lafta-Gareen and their HirShabelle counterpart Ali Gudlaawe met with the presidential candidates Sunday night at a hotel within Aden Adde Airport in Mogadishu.
Sources privy to the talks told Goobjoog News the three presidents who had earlier met Farmaajo offered to mediate the talks and strike a deal for the elections to go ahead.
According to sources close to the meeting, the Farmaajo allies presented an offer for removal of names from the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET) which the opposition was uncomfortable with.
