President Joseph R Biden Approves the Navajo Nation Disaster Declaration

Today, President Joseph R. Biden declared that a major disaster exists for the Navajo Nation and ordered federal assistance to supplement the Tribe’s efforts in the areas affected by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic beginning on January 20, 2020, and continuing. Federal funding is available to the Navajo Nation and certain private nonprofit organizations for emergency protective measures, including direct Federal assistance, for the entire Tribe impacted by COVID-19. Robert J. Fenton, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Tammy Littrell as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas. 

U S President Trump Approves Colorado Disaster Declaration

The White House Today, President Donald J. Trump declared that a major disaster exists in the State of Colorado and ordered Federal assistance to supplement State, tribal, and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by wildfires from September 6 to November 5, 2020. Federal funding is available to State, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the wildfires in the counties of Grand and Larimer. Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide. Robert J. Fenton, Acting Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Jon K. Huss as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

Biden taps Criswell as first woman to lead FEMA

President-elect Joe Biden has selected Deanne Criswell to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Criswell is the first woman nominated to lead the agency, which is primarily responsible for responding to natural disasters that have increased in both number and intensity amid climate change.She currently serves as the Commissioner of the New York City Emergency Management Department, leading the coordination of the city's response.
