24 Unity schools qualify for National Robotics Championship

Twenty-four teams drawn from the Federal Unity Colleges have qualified for the First Lego League, National Robotics Championship Competition 2021.
The teams were selected after highly competitive Zonal Championships held in Lagos and Kano.
The seventh edition of the Championship which is organised annually by Coderina Education and Technology Foundation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and the Principals of 104 Federal Unity Colleges in Nigeria with supports from SAP, FIRST; National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA; Ford and DOW.
Coderina is an independent non-profit organisation ed-tech that works to promote ICT development, youth innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa.
The
Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, said the present system of education should be modified by reforming learning, curriculum and pedagogy.
He said this was in order to keep abreast with modern global practices in education.
Mr Nwajiuba stated this at the opening of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Principals of Federal Unity Colleges (FUC) held in Abuja on Monday.
The meeting was themed: “Restructuring our education System to suit challenging times.”
“The Theme of the 2020 AGM is apt, in that it is imperative in ensuring qualitative instructional delivery so as to maximize student performance in conformity with the societal needs”, he said.

International Day of Education: Skool Media canvasses protection of students, teachers

AS the global community marked this year’s International Day of Education on January 25, Skool Media has urged government at all levels and private school owners to ensure that Nigerian students and teachers are protected from the spread of the Coronavirus disease that is threatening people’s livelihood the world over.
In a statement by the Head, Corporate Communications, Sola Oluwadare, in Lagos, the organisation said the call was in line with the theme of the day this year, which was “Recover and Revitalize Education for the COVID-19 Generation.”
