ISLAMABAD: All education ministers from across Pakistan will meet on January 4 to decide about the reopening of schools which were closed to contain the spread of coronavirus, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said on Thursday.
Shafqat Mahmood was responding to media queries about the government s future course of action regarding educational institutes after Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani said that it is unlikely that schools would be allowed to reopen under the prevailing circumstances.
The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) had earlier decided to shut all schools, colleges, and universities from November 26 and announced that a review meeting would be held in the first week of January.

On November 26, Pakistan closed all its educational institutes after reopening them for almost three months because of a surge in the coronavirus cases. The decision was taken during the National Command and Operation Centre meeting.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference (IPEMC) will be held on January 4 to take the decision regarding opening of schools in the country in the wake of the second Covid-19 wave.
The meeting, which will be headed by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood and attended by all provincial education ministers, will discuss the spike in coronavirus cases in the country as well as the opening of educational institutions.
The meeting will also consider reducing winter and summer vacations. In addition, the new academic year 2020-21 will be considered to start in August 2021 and the national education policy will also be considered.
