Colorado unemployment: Federal benefits start up again

Tamara Chuang The Colorado Sun Colorado’s labor department on Thursday began notifying the first group of out-of-work Coloradans that their federal unemployment benefits are getting ready to start.  “We just started emailing about 230,000 people,” Cher Haavind, deputy director of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, said in a message early Thursday afternoon.  Members of a private Facebook group for the unemployed in Colorado also began sharing the emails from the Department of Labor. Those on pandemic aid who had not used up their benefits on Dec. 26 could reopen their claims on Monday, Feb. 1, to request a payment. The $300 weekly bonus, known as the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, will be paid automatically, according to the email.

IDES 1099-G Forms Now Available

1099-G tax forms are now available for claimants who received unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in 2020, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced today.  Claimants who collected UI benefits last year need the 1099-G tax form from IDES to complete state and federal tax returns. This includes claimants who received regular UI benefits and/or benefits under the new federal pandemic relief programs, including Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Lost Wages Assistance (LWA), and state Extended Benefits (EB). Claimants who opted to receive their 1099-G tax form electronically, which is an option available when claimants establish an IDES account, will receive an email notification with instructions to access the document from the IDES website. Claimants who opted not to receive their 1099-G tax form electronically will receive a paper form via regular mail;
