Trump signs federal stimulus package: Another waiting game for Guam
After a week of uncertainty, President Donald Trump signed Congress COVID-19 relief package Monday morning, Guam time, which will give Guam residents $600 stimulus checks and extend unemployment benefits through mid-March.
Congress passed the $900 billion federal package last week, but it was initially met with disdain from Trump, who stated the effort was a disgrace, USA TODAY reported.
“While no bill is perfect, this package will extend unemployment benefits to millions of Americans throughout the nation and right here at home. It will also provide direct stimulus checks to taxpayers, and provide relief to small businesses and renters alike. As President Biden has said, this act is a meaningful down payment on the larger aid package that must come once he takes office, said Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero.
Federal aid extended for unemployment benefits
Trump finally signs bill with 11-week extension attached to government funding.
Thousands of Oregonians may have to wait a little longer for payments, but action by Congress ensures that their unemployment benefits will continue through March 13.
President Donald Trump signed the bill Sunday, Dec. 27, after threatening to derail the plan that contains the 11-week extensions. The extensions are part of an $892 billion follow-up pandemic aid plan to the CARES Act that Trump signed on March 27.
Both houses of Congress passed the plan Dec. 21 and attached it to a bill that extends federal spending authority through Sept. 30, the end of the federal budget year.
