CHARLESTON â Effective June 19 at midnight, West Virginia will end its participation in all federally funded pandemic unemployment compensation programs.
âWest Virginians have access to thousands of jobs right now,â said Governor Jim Justice. âWe need everyone back to work. Our small businesses and West Virginiaâs economy depend on it.â
Federal pandemic unemployment programs set to end on June 19 include the following:
⢠Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which provides for an additional $300 weekly payment to recipients of unemployment compensation
⢠Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), which provides benefits for those who would not usually qualify, such as the self-employed, gig workers and part-time workers

As the VDOL discovered, and other states have realized, criminal operations were barraging online systems with false claims. Also, the work search system technical issue at VDOL that surfaced on May 16 is now resolved. The Vermont work search requirement for unemployment insurance filers was reinstated on May 9.
Meanwhile, the Legislature is on the verge of removing 2020 from the unemployment calculation. If they hadn t, rates to employers would have escalated and the UI Trust Fund would have unnecessarily ballooned.
