Easter: FRSC deploys over 3,000 Marshals, sets up mobile courts

Ahead of this year’s Easter celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Zone 4 Command comprising Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States has called on all road users and transport fleet operators within the Zone to abide by traffic rules and regulations as well as the COVID-19 protocol during the Easter festive period or risk arrest and prosecution.
The Zonal Commanding Officer RS4, Assistant Corps Marshal Kayode OLAGUNJU, mni gave this warning in a release signed by the Acting Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olusegun Owoeye in Jos to herald the commencement in the Zone of the nationwide “EASTER SPECIAL PATROL OPERATION” with the aim of ensuring sanity and prevention of deaths and injuries on the road during the festive period.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra said a lone accident on Zik’s Roundabout in Onitsha on Thursday claimed the life of a yet-to-be identified male driver.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, who confirmed the accident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, said it occurred at about noon.
Kumapayi said the affected Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number AWK399EX, was said to be speeding when it rammed into a stationary truck without registration number.
He said: “Witness report reaching us indicates that the unidentified driver of the Toyota Jeep was on speed when he lost control and rammed into a stationary truck by the side of the road.

Amaechi solicits stiffer penalty for traffic offenders

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has called for the review of the highway codes to ensure stiffer penalty for road traffic offenders.
Amaechi made the call at the Easter mega rally organised by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday in Abuja.
The minister said that the review would help to reduce road traffic crashes and carnages on the highway.
He said that the review of the highway codes would also help curb the issue of road traffic crashes in the country.
Amaechi said that there was the need for road users to be aware of the stiffer penalty attached to recklessness on the highway.
