The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mandated the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) for the processing of driver’s license.
“FRSC Management has resolved that effective 21 December 2020, all applicants for the National Driver’s Licence in Nigeria must present the National Identification Number (NIN) from the NIMC before they can be captured for any class of the licences produced by the FRSC,” the agency said on Wednesday in a statement signed by its Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem.
It noted that the development followed the Federal Government’s directive on the harmonisation of citizens’ data by relevant agencies, explaining that “all driver’s licence applicants are, therefore, expected to present their National Identification Number from the date, before they can be attended to.”
A combined team of emergency officials including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) had stormed the site to shut down the leakage to prevent secondary incident.
Also on ground are officials of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), FRSC, Department of Petroleum Resources(DPR), Nigeria Gas Company and Ogun State Fire Service.
LASEMA Director-General, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu who mobilized his men to join the rescue efforts despite not falling within the agency’s jurisdiction, however confirmed that the leaking pipe has been shut successfully.
He said dampening of the affected perimeter is ongoing.
Pipeline Explosion Causes Gridlock On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
The two sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, are presently blocked, particularly around the Magboro area as a result of a gas pipeline explosion by the Punch newspaper office.

The gas pipeline that ruptured in the Magboro area inward Berger on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has now been shut down with the area cordoned off while traffic has been diverted, The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) announced on Wednesday.
The pipeline was said to have been burst following damage caused by the Julius Berger crew working on the road in the morning of Wednesday, causing panic among motorists on the ever-busy road.
Also the Nnational Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also advised residents of Magboro and commuters plying the expressway to comply with safety measures put in place.
CONGESTION: Shippers Council, FRSC, Ports & Cargo seek alternative route

AS the gridlock around Tin-can Island port which has resulted in the congestion at the terminals continues unabated, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, have started strategising for alternative routes for passage of trucks.
Last weekend the federal agencies undertook a tour of the port for this purpose.
Although the exact area being explored could not be ascertained as at press time, a source said that the middle gate between first and second gates belonging to Ports & Cargo Terminal is being considered.
