No fewer than 12 persons were feared dead yesterday following collision between a commercial bus and a Toyota Sienna on the Benin-Asaba Expressway.
The crash occurred near at Alifekede, a boundary community with Edo State near Agbor when the luxury bus ran over the Toyota Sienna car which was allegedly driving against traffic, eyewitness accounts said.
THISDAY learnt that road safety officials who moved swiftly to the scene pulled at least five lifeless bodies out of the wreckage of the vehicles.
Other passengers in the ill-fated vehicles were brought out unconscious and rushed to the hospital, where many more passengers were confirmed dead on arrival by medical officials.
He added that the new improved NIN slip is pocket friendly and an easy to verify version.
“The N20 and N40 fees for NIN verification by individuals and mobile network operators, respectively, were also waived.
“These efforts are aimed at supporting the policy to link subscribers’ NIN to their SIM, which was approved by the government earlier in the year and communicated to the NCC on Feb. 4, 2020.
“The highly anticipated Web Service (MWS) application called the NIMC mobile app and the improved NIN slip are now available for public use,” the minister’s aide said.
Mr Adeluyi explained that the application provided a secure channel for all Nigerians and legal residents to easily verify and authenticate their identities on-the-go using smartphones, adding that it also enables them to link the NIN to their phone numbers.

Following allegations of corruption and ineptitude by truckers, the federal government announced that a new team would be reconstituted to manage traffic on the port access road.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, disclosed this in Lagos during a meeting she held with stakeholders including officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN), truck owners and representatives of shipping companies.
“This is part of the Federal Government’s policy to improve the process of obtaining NIN and linking it to SIM, which was sent to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for implementation”, Adeluyi said in the statement.
The government also said the N20 and N40 fees for NIN verification by individuals and Mobile Network Operators, respectively, were also waived in the new app.
