Official: Customs seizes over N70 million contraband goods in 7 months in Bauchi zone

TODAY File Photo The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone D Bauchi, has seized contraband goods worth over N70.1 million between September 2020 to March 2021, according to Mr Adesanmi Omiye. The FOU Zone D comprises Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Plateau and Nasarawa. Omiye, who is the Comptroller of the FOU Zone D command, told newsmen at a briefing, on Thursday, in Bauchi, that the seizures included 573 -50kg bags of foreign rice valued at N9,.7.4 million, 25- 25 liter Jerry cans of foreign vegetable oil valued N240,000. Others were 45 bales of used clothing value at N8.83 million, 50 bags of foreign mosquito coils valued at N450,000 and 175 cartons of foreign soap valued at N2 million, he said

Customs arrest two suspects, seize N70m contraband

Punch Newspapers Sections Published 12 March 2021 Two suspects were arrested and contraband worth N70m seized within six months by men of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone D. The Comptroller, Adesanmi Omiye, who stated this during a press conference at the zonal headquarters in Bauchi on Thursday, said the two suspects were arrested for being in possession of 162 kilogrammes of Indian hemp valued at N30m. He stated that 12 vehicles used to convey the contraband and 674 rounds of 70mm cartridges were also seized. Omiye said, “The operatives of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone D, Bauchi, apart from blocking and suppressing smuggling within the zone, made nine seizures from September 9 to date. Some of the seizures are 12 bags of marijuana with a value of N30m, 674 rounds of 70mm cartridges and 573 bags of 50kgs of foreign parboiled rice valued at N9,741,000.”
