The Montgomery County Council on Tuesday approved a change aimed at increasing 5G access by allowing the installation of small cell antennas countywide.
Seven council members voted for the zoning text change Tom Hucker, Gabe Albornoz, Hans Riemer, Nancy Navarro, Evan Glass, Andrew Friedson and Craig Rice.
Council Members Will Jawando and Sidney Katz were opposed.
The zoning text amendment approved Tuesday will allow 5G small cell antennas and equipment in residential areas countywide, with limits on where they may be.
You and your family are finally getting to take a vacation this summer after months of lockdowns and closures. The world finally seems to be getting back to normal. Unfortunately, cyber thieves are just waiting for you to pack your bags.
According to our friends at the Federal Communications Commission, here are some ways to keep you and your digital devices safe while you travel:
Leave any devices you donât truly need at home.
For those devices you do take, make sure to update all anti-virus and malware options before departing
and again after returning home.
Also, before you travel, make sure to change your passwords and PINs to new, strong options that you do not use at home. When you get back after your trip, change them again to another new option.

After going through the month of July with no launches, SpaceX is scheduled to resume missions in August with Falcon 9 rocket flights from California and Florida to begin deploying Starlink internet satellites into new orbits.
SpaceX is gearing up for at least two Starlink launches next month, beginning with a Falcon 9 mission departing from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, no earlier than Aug. 10, multiple sources said. Another Falcon 9 launch is scheduled to carry a batch of Starlink satellites into orbit in mid-August.

Alaska Communications, one of the state’s largest internet providers, has been sold to an East Coast telecommunications communications company and an investment firm.
The sale was announced at the start of the year, and ATN International Inc. said July 22 in a written statement and filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission that the $343 million arrangement is now complete.
Through a holding company, ATN will own 52 percent of Alaska Communications. An investment firm called Freedom 3 Investments IV will own 48 percent through another holding company.
“Our brand, company name and commitment to Alaska remain the same,” said Heather Cavanaugh, a spokeswoman for Alaska Communications. She said there are no current plans to change prices.
