New FCC Rule Could Block Chinese-Made Tech From US Sales
Law360 (May 27, 2021, 2:01 PM EDT) The Federal Communications Commission will launch a proceeding next month that could result in Chinese-made telecom equipment losing access to domestic markets as part of the agency s efforts to fortify U.S. networks against foreign security threats.
In a Wednesday blog post, acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said she ll lead her agency in a June 17 vote that will open dialogue on how the agency can hone its device-approval rules to help keep insecure devices off the market while also tightening criteria for FCC auction participants.

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND The launching of thousands of satellites into low Earth orbit by tech billionaire Elon Musk s SpaceX threatens the de-facto monopolization of space, the head of competitor Arianespace Stephane Israel has warned. Elon Musk s Starlink constellation project recently received authorization from U.S. regulator the Federal Communications Commission to provide broadband from space and place thousands of satellites lower than previously proposed, angering competitors including Amazon. SpaceX, which asked the FCC for permission which will apply to some 2,800 satellites, plans ultimately to blanket poorly connected and isolated areas of the globe with internet connectivity. But rivals claim the lower altitude could increase risk of space collisions and heightened radio interference.
