Now the federal government will help you pay for that. Under the “Emergency Broadband Benefit,” $3.2 billion have been allocated to subsidize the internet bills of Americans affected by the pandemic.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) is urging the Treasury Department to allow for funds from the American Rescue Plan to go toward a wider array of people needing broadband. Featured Video Hide
Currently, the standards in Treasury Department’s interim rules “risks excluding underserved communities from this funding and depriving them of economic opportunity,” Wyden said in a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. Advertisement Hide
The American Rescue Plan directed the Treasury Department to disperse funding to states, territories, and tribes to cover broadband infrastructure.
