Washington, D.C.-(ENEWSPF)- Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) Wednesday highlighted the launch of the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program and urged eligible constituents to enroll to receive a discount on their monthly internet bill.
The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program is a groundbreaking new program that will help economically vulnerable Americans afford their monthly internet bill. The $3.2 billion program was created as part of the final omnibus appropriations bill in December, and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that open enrollment in the program begins today, May 12. Temporary help is on the way that will cover some of the costs of broadband for qualifying low-income households through the Federal Communications Commission Emergency Broadband Benefit Program.
The FCC announced that residents can begin applying for and enrolling in the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program on Wednesday, May 12.
“Flagler County isn’t actually involved outside of letting our residents know the program is available,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “There are criteria that have to be met, but it’s a great program for those who are eligible.”
How To Get Emergency Broadband Benefit for $50 Monthly Internet Discounts

American households impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic struggling to pay for internet service can now apply to receive a discount of up to $75 per month on their broadband bill under the government s new Emergency Broadband Benefit program.
Eligible recipients can also get a discount of up to $100 to buy a laptop, desktop computer or tablet device if they contribute a certain amount toward the purchase, the Federal Communications Commission said in a statement Wednesday.
Those eligible for the benefit can apply by contacting their provider directly, or apply online or by mail.

Americans can begin applying for $50 off their monthly internet bill on Wednesday as part of an emergency government program to keep people connected during the pandemic.
The $3.2 billion program is part of the $900 billion December pandemic-relief package. The government is increasing spending on broadband as the pandemic made stark that millions of Americans did not have access to, and could not afford, broadband at a time when jobs, school and health care was moving online.
It’s unclear how long the money will last but it’s expected to be several months. Tens of millions of people are eligible, although the Federal Communications Commission, which is administering the program, did not specify a number.
