Gang member pleads guilty to directing drug trafficking in Kings, Tulare counties while in prison

FRESNO — High-ranking Nuestra Familia prison gang member Salvador Castro Jr., 50, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced. According to court documents, Castro used a contraband cellphone from inside Pleasant Valley State Prison in Fresno County to arrange for the formation of a new street gang regiment in Kings and Tulare counties. According to the plea agreement, Castro was recorded on a wiretap conspiring with associates outside of prison to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine. Between May 5, 2019, and May 15, 2019, Castro coordinated the transportation of approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine from the Sacramento area to a residence in Visalia. Castro arranged for co-conspirators outside of prison to protect the narcotics during transit, and when the drugs arrived in Visalia, Castro and his co-conspirators discussed plans to distrib

Old Forge couple charged with tax evasion for concealing over $550,000 from the IRS

Scranton, PA   Lynne Mineo and Richard Mineo, both of Old Forge, Pennsylvania, were charged in a criminal information with tax evasion. According to Acting United States Bruce D. Brandler, the information alleges that the Mineos, who are husband and wife, failed to report a total of $550,469.92 in income between tax years 2014 ($145,205), 2015 ($169,346), 2016 ($153,749), and 2017 ($82,168). The income was for the Mineos business, a beer retail store called Mineo s Brewer s Outlet, located in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service s Criminal Investigation Division. Assistant U.S. Attorney Phillip J. Caraballo is prosecuting the case. Criminal Informations are only allegations. All persons charged are presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty in court.

bjohnson@theintermountain.com CLARKSBURG Two Florida men were indicted Tuesday after allegedly stealing campers worth more than $145,000 from an Elkins business and being stopped on the West Virginia Turnpike. Taylon Batista Garcia, 35, and Yankier Gaston Garcia, 32, are each charged with one count of conspiracy to commit offense against the United States and one count of attempted transportation of stolen property in interstate commerce. Both men are accused of driving heavy-duty pickup trucks into Elkins and stealing a 2020 Jayco North Point Camper and a 2021 Grand Design Reflection camper from Roy’s RV Supercenter in July 2020. The Garcias are then accused of attempting to transport the stolen campers across state lines. The campers were valued at $145,260.

Scott announced. According to court documents, on November 13, Quesada was found to be in possession of a significant number of counterfeit oxycodone hydrochloride pills containing fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opiate known to cause overdoses and death, even in small quantities. This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney James Conolly is prosecuting the case.

Hampshire man admits to porn charge in federal court Mineral Daily News-Tribune MARTINSBURG – Jonathan Burgess, of Augusta, West Virginia, has admitted to a child pornography charge, U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced. Burgess, age 57, pled guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, admitting to having child pornography images of a minor who hadn’t reached the age of 12 in Hampshire County in September 2019. Burgess faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000.  Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
