Willamette Law Keynote Speaker, Faculty Member of the Year, and Class of 2021 Valedictorian named by Sarah Bello,
Willamette Law will welcome Justice Adrienne C. Nelson as the keynote speaker for the College of Law’s 135th Commencement. The ceremony will also honor two members of the law community, including announcing Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Jeffrey Dobbins as the Law Faculty Member of the Year, and graduate Spencer Prosen JD’21 as the Class of 2021 valedictorian.

The Center for Media and Democracy s president, Lisa Graves, testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary s Subcommittee on Federal Courts on March 10, 2021 in a hearing titled, What s Wrong with the Supreme Court: The Big-Money Assault on Our Judiciary.
Ms. Graves testimony detailed how the federal judicial selection process has been manipulated by special interest groups that have pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into sophisticated campaigns to influence judicial nominations, judicial decisions, and judges themselves with very little transparency about who is funding such campaigns.

On May 7, the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS or Service) under the new Biden administration published a proposed rule to revoke a final rule issued during the final weeks of the Trump administration, 86 Fed. Reg. 1134 (Jan. 7, 2021) (January 7 rule), which excluded incidental take from the prohibition against take under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA or Act). 86 Fed. Reg. 24,573 (May 7, 2021) (Proposed Rule). This proposal is the latest development in a series of efforts by recent presidential administrations to implement competing interpretations of the MBTA, as we have reported in

Betsy Flanagan has been named the managing principal of the Twin Cities office. She succeeds J. Patrick Finn III, Ph.D., who served in the role since 2015. The Twin Cities office houses over 30 IP attorneys and technology specialists, as well as the firm’s administrative hub for support staff.
Flanagan’s practice focuses on complex patent litigation, with an emphasis on life sciences, biotechnology and pharmaceutical litigation, including Hatch-Waxman litigation. She has worked on a variety of technologies, including pharmaceutical formulations, glaucoma drugs, hair growth agents, dermal fillers, nucleosides, antibodies, biologics, and sleep apnea devices.
