Drakes Beach will be closed from May 1 to Aug. 31 while construction crews reconfigure the parking lot and restore a wetland. The work is part of the Point Reyes National Seashore’s two-year road improvement project, which is over 70 percent complete. About half of the two-acre parking lot will be removed, and the remaining area will be reconfigured with 314 spaces, down from 399. Three metal culverts will be taken out and surrounding upland areas will be excavated to create a two-acre wetland with mostly freshwater and some tidal influence on the south side of the lot. The restoration aims to return natural hydrologic function that existed before the parking lot was built in the 1960s, park spokeswoman Christine Beekman said. We are a fifth into the season and several things are still very clear: the Panthers are the team to catch, the Storm, Rabbitohs and Roosters are still contenders, while another long season could loom large for the Broncos, Cowboys and Bulldogs.
In fact, what threatens to be the biggest mismatch of the season will kick off Round 6 of the NRL, with the undefeated Panthers flying north to face the reigning wooden spooners, the Broncos, at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night.

Some of the observations I make here will go into other places, with more objective information presented. As mentioned previously, I have driven 900 miles to get where I am now. This is somewhat like if I had gone from the Ruhr valley of Germany to the coast of Portugal. Quite a difference in climate, geography, local customs, and everything else. The sun is higher in the sky. And yet, by many categories, the town I moved from, and the town I moved to, are very similar. They are both small towns on Federal Highways that are larger than their populations might suggest, because they are the largest town for some distance in either direction.
