City Council approves resolution on poverty exemptions

Coldwater, MI, USA / WTVB | 1590 AM · 95.5 FM | The Voice of Branch County Feb 22, 2021 7:53 PM COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In accordance with recent revisions in state property tax law, the Coldwater City Council approved a resolution on Monday night which amends policies and guidelines for applicants requesting poverty exemptions. Neighborhood Services Director and City Assessor Deb Sikorski said in her report that recent legislative revisions made the city policy invalid and in need of amendment. The updated policy calls for applicants to own and occupy the property for which the exemption is requested. Applicants cannot be considered for exemption if their total household gross income exceeds the Federal Poverty Guidelines as defined and determined annually by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Income is from all occupants of the home.

Feb 6, 2021 ST. CLAIRSVILLE The Community Action Commission of Belmont County is assisting income-eligible households with winter heating needs through March 31. Eligible households, with less than a 10-day supply, may receive a one-time delivery of bulk fuel or propane valued at up to $900. Utility customers may receive assistance up to $175 for regulated utility customers and up to $750 for unregulated utility customers to prevent disconnection of service, restore service or establish service. Regulated utility customers may also sign up for the Percentage of Income Payment Plan, which is a payment plan based on monthly income. Income eligibility guidelines for PIPP follow 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and HEAP follow 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
