The 14-member team said after a two-day meeting in the southwestern city of Baidoa that they resolved issues related to the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET), Somaliland representatives and Gedo seats. The committee called on national consultative leaders, including current President Mohamed Abdullah Mohamed, to hold an urgent meeting Thursday to finalize the agreement and pave the way for elections.

The 14-member team which had a meeting in Baidoa in South West state announced Tuesday evening that all the contentious issues had been resolved but did not provide details on how they will be or have been resolved. According to the committee, three contentious issues are the appointments of the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET), Somaliland elections Team and the Gedo region.

GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB:  A glimmer of hope emerged from Dhusamareb Thursday morning following a compromise deal between the federal and state leaders on the ongoing electoral stalemate in what could now pave way for the much-delayed exercise to kick off. Sources close to the talks have intimated to Goobjoog News that President Mohamed Farmaajo has significantly ceded ground in what could emerge as a win for the opposition and the two allied states of Jubbaland and Puntland. Farmaajo, sources said, agreed to filter out people considered as his cronies in the Federal Indirect Elections Team (FIET). These include senior civil servants, Villa Somalia operatives and intelligence officials. Villa Somalia deputy chief of staff Abdinur Mohamed is one of the senior-most administration officials appointed to FIET by Farmaajo.
