We stand firmly should by shoulder with the UN

Photo: Bundesregierung/Schacht I am delighted to be here and to celebrate the 75 th anniversary of the United Nations with a strong, reliable and innovative partner, declared UN Secretary-General António Guterres during his virtual talks with Angela Merkel. He praised the resolute action taken by Germany and by the Chancellor personally in the field of international cooperation, an area that is currently facing huge challenges.  The Chancellor declared that Germany would continue to stand firmly shoulder by shoulder with the United Nations in order to drive forward common multilateral solutions . When the United Nations was founded 75 years ago it was a symbol of hope underscored Angela Merkel and added, and still is today for many people – even if its work is often extremely complicated . In future, Germany intends to continue helping find peaceful political solutions to crises, such as those seen in Libya and Sudan at present.

Germany reinforces its support to vulnerable populations in Jordan Format AMMAN – Germany has again shown its commitment to support refugees and vulnerable Jordanians with a contribution of 65 million Euros (US$76.9 million USD) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Jordan for the years 2020 and 2021. The contribution, provided by Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, will enable WFP to continue supporting half a million refugees in communities across the Kingdom, including those living in the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps, through monthly cash assistance to meet their food and nutritional needs. “In 2020, refugees and vulnerable communities in Jordan have faced tremendous challenges due to the outbreak of COVID-19. We are grateful for WFP who has stayed and delivered much-needed assistance during the first months of the pandemic. Germany has provided US$540 Million in additional funding to cover urgent needs caused by COVID-19 worldwide. We are glad to continue

The final GMF digital session of 2020 discussed the possibilities and challenges of this approach. Too much doom and gloom is causing more of us to switch off the news. But what if the media had a new approach to reporting that inspired people, because it didn’t just identify problems but also explored solutions? The approach is called constructive journalism, and it’s being taken up by a growing number of media outlets that believe that journalism needs to reinvent itself for the future.
