Fernandez and DeRose are being recognized for co-founding the Veterans Engagement Team of SJI (VETS) within South Jersey Industries. Launched last year, their program aims to engage veteran employees, encourage them to use their experience as a company asset, address issues unique to the veteran community, and supportarmed forces initiatives inside and outside the company. The military taught me how to work together as a team regardless of differences. This approach has not only helped me to collaborate successfully within the company, but has also given me the skills to seamlessly work with all of our external customers and elected officials,” said DeRose, an SJI senior government affairs specialist who functions as a company liaison with local, state and federal public officials.
A Colts Neck man who works as a military contractor at Naval Weapons Station Earle was indicted Friday on seven federal counts related to his alleged role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump on Jan. 6.
Timothy Louis Hale-Cusaneilli, who is also a U.S. Army Reservist, was arrested Jan. 15 after authorities said he boasted about his involvement in the deadly Capitol attack to an associate, who later reported him to the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Hale-Cusanelli was described by prosecutors as an avowed white supremacist and Nazi sympathizer who hosted a YouTube show where he shared extreme views.

Gov. Phil Murphy returns to the Trenton War Memorial on Wednesday to provide updates on the nearly 11-month-old coronavirus pandemic.
The press conference will start earlier than normal at 11 a.m. and will be streamed live on the governor’s YouTube.com channel.
Murphy will be joined by Deputy Commissioner for Public Health Services Dr. David Adinaro, coronavirus advisor Dr. Eddy Bresnitz and State Police Superintendent Colonel Patrick Callahan.
Adinaro will again sit in for state Health Commissioner Judy Persichilli, who continues to isolate at home after a member of her staff tested positive for COVID-19 last week.
