The Federal Government today met with representatives of all the professional bodies and unions in the health sector over the issue of hazard allowance for health workers in government health establishments.
The meeting which held behind closed doors at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa Abuja was convened by the Government in furtherance of the April 2020 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that it signed with the Health Workers in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Submissions were brought to the meeting by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria (PSN), amongst others.

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called off its 9-day old strike .
The resident doctors reached the decision to end the strike at a virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which ended late Saturday evening.
The President of NARD, Dr. Uyilawa Okhuaihesuyi who spoke to THISDAY on the telephone said the association has resolved to resume work following positive consideration of the Memorandum of Agreement reached with the federal government at their meeting on Friday.
He said that the association had directed it’s members to resume work by 8 am (today) Sunday.
Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige has also confirmed the suspension of the resident doctors’ strike.

Federal government has presented resident doctors with new commitment with a view to getting them to call off their ongoing strike.
Rising from another conciliation meeting between federal government and the National Association Resident Doctors (NARD) held yesterday, both sides tried to resolve various issues fuelling the current strike including; non-payment of House Officers / non-recruitment of House officers; abolishment of the Bench fees; non-payment of National Minimum Wage consequential adjustment arrears.
Other issues taken up at the meeting were residency training allowance; hazard allowance and payment of Resident Doctors on GIFMIS platform.
The meeting which was a follow up to the conciliatory meeting of March 31 saw both sides taking a step further to iron out grey’s areas of concern.
