KABUL (Pajhwok): A Russia-led military alliance says terrorist activities in Afghanistan and the regions bordering Tajikistan have spiked in recent months.
A top official of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) noted an uptick in activities by terrorist outfits in late 2020 and early 2021.
CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas was quoted as saying by TASS: “We are very alarmed about the situation in neighbouring Afghanistan.”
He said an analysis of information from official and other sources indicated the intensity and scale of hostilities by armed groups linked to international terrorist organisations.
The militant outfits had stepped up attacks on security forces to seize inhabited areas of Afghanistan, particular those bordering Tajikistan, as well as on the facilities of Afghan defence and law enforcement agencies, he added.
