Search and rescue efforts by ground crews will focus on the location where the kayak was found, Sooke RCMP said. The search for Ross, who had been expected back from about 4 p.m. Sunday, began around 7 p.m. that evening with a Cormorant helicopter and Buffalo aircraft. “I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of those who have helped and volunteered their time on this investigation,” said Sooke RCMP Sgt. Kevin Shaw. “It is directly because of their vigilance that the kayak was located and recovered.” Sooke RCMP took over the case Monday afternoon, after the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre decided to stand down its air and sea search efforts.
