Man charged with attempted murder after beating roommate at care facility, prosecutors say

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. - A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating his elderly roommate at a care facility in Maple Shade, prosecutors announced.
According to investigators, David Lake, 51, was taken into custody Tuesday at The Palace Rehabilitation and Care Center on the 300 block of West Mill Road.
Maple Shade police and the Maple Shade First Aid Squad were dispatched to the facility on Jan. 17 for a report of an assault.
Prosecutors say the investigation revealed that Lake allegedly attacked his 78-year-old roommate, who is immobile and non-verbal, while the victim was in his bed in their room.
Driver killed in Salem County head-on crash

A motorist was killed Thursday night when two cars collided on a road in Salem County, New Jersey State Police said.
Maribel Pacheco, 47, of Bridgeton, was driving east on Porchtown Road in Pittsgrove Township just before 11 p.m. when her car collided head-on with an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
Pacheco died of her injuries, police said, and the other driver, a 28-year-old Bridgeton man, suffered “moderate” injuries. He was listed in stable condition at a hospital.
Additional details were not released. The crash remains under investigation.
State Police are also investigating a one-car accident in Pittsgrove that occurred Friday morning and left a driver hospitalized.

1 dead, 2 hospitalized in single-car crash

One person died and two others were hospitalized early Sunday morning after a car flipped on its side in Franklin Township, Gloucester County, police said.
Police responded around 4:20 a.m. to a crash near Main and Marshall Mill roads, where they spotted a vehicle resting on the driver’s side with three people trapped inside, according to a statement from the Franklin Police Department.
The occupants were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from the Malaga and Forest Grove fire departments.
One of the occupants, 43-year-old Richard Franklin of Elmer, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Two other occupants were taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Police did not release their conditions.
