Authorities in Burlington County say a man has been charged with attempted murder after severely beating his elderly roommate at the care facility where they both live.
Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Maple Shade Police Chief Christopher J. Fletcher say 51-year-old David P. Lake lived at The Palace Rehabilitation and Care Center in the 300 block of West Mill Road in Maple Shade.
Coffina s office says,
The investigation began after Maple Shade police and the Maple Shade First Aid Squad were dispatched to the facility on the morning of January 17 on a report of an assault.
The investigation revealed that Lake had attacked his 78-year-old roommate, who is immobile and non-verbal, while the victim was in his bed in their room.

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. - A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly beating his elderly roommate at a care facility in Maple Shade, prosecutors announced.
According to investigators, David Lake, 51, was taken into custody Tuesday at The Palace Rehabilitation and Care Center on the 300 block of West Mill Road.
Maple Shade police and the Maple Shade First Aid Squad were dispatched to the facility on Jan. 17 for a report of an assault.
Prosecutors say the investigation revealed that Lake allegedly attacked his 78-year-old roommate, who is immobile and non-verbal, while the victim was in his bed in their room.
Camden County police have arrested three people in connection with a Friday night shooting that injured a young child, a shooting that Chief Gabriel Rodriguez called an appalling act of violence and a traumatic event for the victim and their family.
A city man, Keith Hinson, 21, and two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, face attempted murder, and weapons charges, Camden County Police spokesman Dan Keashen said Monday.
Police responded to a ShotSpotter activation shortly after 9 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Central Avenue in the city s Centerville section. Officers found an injured child whom they took to Cooper University Hospital for treatment.
Driver killed in Salem County head-on crash

A motorist was killed Thursday night when two cars collided on a road in Salem County, New Jersey State Police said.
Maribel Pacheco, 47, of Bridgeton, was driving east on Porchtown Road in Pittsgrove Township just before 11 p.m. when her car collided head-on with an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
Pacheco died of her injuries, police said, and the other driver, a 28-year-old Bridgeton man, suffered “moderate” injuries. He was listed in stable condition at a hospital.
Additional details were not released. The crash remains under investigation.
State Police are also investigating a one-car accident in Pittsgrove that occurred Friday morning and left a driver hospitalized.
