Wairau Valley are the only unbeaten side in the SBS Bank 2nd grade challenge cup competition following a narrow 8 run win over Kaikōura at Horton Park on Saturday. Luke Pannell was the match winner for Valley scoring 89 out of the team total of 166 and taking 3 wickets including last player out Sukhi Multani, who struck 32 from number 9 in the order to take Kaikōura so close to their 3rd win. Renwick are level in 2nd place following their win over Celtic Gold, Andrew Nation scoring 73 and taking 3 wickets while Matt Morley took 4-33 for Celtic.

Greer Robinson, G8, came home with two bronze pennants from the 200m and long jump. Imogen Singleton, G8, was a bronze pennant winner in the 200m. Tane Garcia-Soto, B8, won gold in the 100m, 200m and long jump, with bronze in the 60m. Kobe Dorn, B9, received three bronze pennants from the 100m, 200m and long jump. Alina Rizvi, G9, won her gold pennant in the discus to go with her silver from the shot put. Ella Singleton, G9, was a gold pennant winner in the 60m and 100m, and a silver winner in the 200m and long jump. Eli Waqatairewa, B9, received bronze pennants in the 60m, 100m and shot put. Dominic Stassen, B9, won a bronze in the 100m.

Top young athletes to start the year at Colgate Games

Ashton Dorn, Cooper Robinson, Lucy Cadzow, Neeve Robertson compete for medals in the grade-11 events. Grade 10 competitors will be Chloe Groube, Mila Stassen and Harlem Grout. Unlike their older teammates who must qualify for finals through a series of heats with the top three finishers receiving medals, athletes in the 7-to-9 age group receive pennants for the place getters in each division of their events. The 9 year olds competing for these pennants will be Alina Rizvi, Dominic Stassen, Eli Wagatairewa, Ella Singleton, Kobe Dorn, and Zac Wormgoor. Eight-year olds competing are Greer Robinson, Imogen Singleton and Tane Garcia-Soto with the 7 year olds Alex Harvie, Angus Cadzow and Niamh Carr.
