In these days of divisive politics and social media firestorms, it is rare to have a topic that we can all agree on. Most everyone would support the statement that breastfeeding is good for your baby. There are a lifetime of maternal and child health benefits from breastfeeding. This statement is not controversial.
However, when it comes to exposure to breastfeeding in public, many Americans disagree. “It is OK and even beneficial if it happens behind closed doors, but do not actually make me see or acknowledge it” seems to be the predominant sentiment about breastfeeding.

Delmar Hawke is San Diego’s first baby born in 2021, according to Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns.
The baby girl rang in the New Year at 12:05 a.m., hospital officials said.
Delmar was born to parents Melissa and Nicholas Hawke of San Diego. The newborn is the second child for the parents, who also have a 3 1/2-year-old daughter.
Delmar Hawke weighed in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, hospital spokesman Bruce Hartman said.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) Each year, about 8,000 babies are born at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital. But only one family gets to claim that their baby was the first to be born there that year.
Melissa and Nicolas Hawke are parents again. In their arms, they lovingly hold their 6-pound 8-ounce bundle of joy, Delmar. I totally was thinking she was going to be born on the 31st, anywhere around 8 PM to 10 PM, mother Melissa said.

Sharp Mary Birch Hospital s first baby born this year is a San Diego girl whose name has an especially local vibe.
Delmar Hawke was delivered at 12:05 in the morning on New Year s Day, Sharp officials said Friday.
The newborn s parents, Melissa and Nick, are locals from the Bay Park neighborhood she s a Navy brat who calls San Diego home and he grew up in Spring Valley so the name Delmar is not a complete surprise. The couple also has another daughter with a gender-neutral name, Charlie Rose with Delmar, they were prepared whether they had a girl or a boy.
