Council to help mark National Tree Day 2021

Kempsey Shire Council Kempsey Shire Council are donating plants to schools and encouraging residents to get involved this National Tree Day as part of their ongoing commitment to environmental initiatives. Council will be gifting either a fruit tree, seasonal vegetable or native plant to each of the 43 schools in the shire to encourage them to take part in National Schools Tree Day on Friday 30 July. Kempsey Shire Council Coordinator Civic Services, Katy Rogan, said that while there will be no public events this National Tree Day, the rest of the community are still encouraged to participate on Sunday 1 August by planting in their backyards or gardens where possible.

Slim Dusty Centre reopens at reduced hours

Kempsey Shire Council Kempsey Shire Council wishes to advise that the Slim Dusty Centre will reopen Tuesday 20 July. While the COVID-19 Public Health Order is in place, the centre will be operating at reduced hours, which are 10am – 2pm Tuesday to Saturday and will close on Sundays and Mondays. Millions to upgrade Kempsey Saleyards and tackle Tropical Soda Apple

Kempsey Shire Council Kempsey Shire Council has received a critical boost to help in the bushfire recovery thanks to Stage Two of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, co-funded by the Australian and NSW Governments. Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey, said $6.3 million was allocated to the Kempsey Saleyards and a further $724,000 help tackle the Tropical Soda Apple. “An infrastructure upgrade at Kempsey Regional Saleyards will provide an enhanced facility for local cattle vendors and buyers and ensure we have a competitive regional saleyard for the Mid North Coast,” Ms Pavey said. “In addition, Tropical Soda Apple has significantly increased throughout the Valley since the devastating 2019 bush fires. A comprehensive control program will assist landholders to eliminate infestations, protect the natural water courses and prevent further spread to private and public lands.”

Council recognises school s amazing water conservation

Kempsey Shire Council Kempsey Shire Council’s innovative water sustainability program continues to pave the way for students across the Macleay Valley to receive a practical education on the importance of water conservation and preservation. Over 15 schools in the Shire have joined Council’s Waterwise Schools Program which encourages students to use water responsibly and sustainably. Students at Kempsey Adventist School were recently presented with the very first Waterwise Trophy for completing their refresher course delivered in partnership with Council by educators from the Cascade Environmental Education Centre. It highlights information on local catchments, water use, water conservation and human impacts on waterways.
