3 new virus cases recorded in KTN

200K vax doses given in Alaska

KETCHIKAN (KDN) — The Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center announced two new cases of COVID-19 and one new hospitalization on Thursday. Statewide, 213 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Wednesday by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Alaska’s total number of vaccine doses administered also topped 200,000 on Thursday. Both of the new local cases were still under investigation — as to the source of the infections and potential close contacts — on Thursday, according to an evening press release from the Emergency Operations Center. “During the contact investigations, Public Health will coordinate with the positive person to reach out to anyone who may be a close contact and instruct them to quarantine,” the release noted.

Five of the cases involve symptomatic individuals, according to a Wednesday evening press release from the EOC. All five of those cases were still under investigation as to source and contacts on Wednesday evening. One case involves an asymptomatic individual. Investigation as to the source of the case, along with contact tracing, were underway on Wednesday, according to the EOC. The seventh case involved a symptomatic individual who was determined to be a close contact of a known positive.  Additionally, The two cases pending from (Tuesday) were determined to be community spread, the EOC statement noted. Community spread has accounted for 18% of all COVID-19 cases recorded in Ketchikan to date, per online EOC ifnormation.
