(Bloomberg) Chancellor Angela Merkel’s administration put the far-right AfD party under surveillance as a possible threat to democracy, the first such move against a group in Germany’s parliament since World War II. The domestic intelligence service is monitoring Alternative for Germany, the biggest opposition party in the Bundestag, for potential violations of rules protecting human dignity and democracy, according to a person familiar with the matter, who asked not to be identified because the decision hasn’t been publicly announced.
