Ferrari suffered their worst result in four decades after finishing a dreary P6 in the Constructors’ Championship in 2020. But, with new regulations finally on the way in 2022, the Scuderia are prepared to somewhat sacrifice next season in order to be in the best possible position ahead of Formula’s 1 reset. The plan for the 2022 car will only become compromised if the 2021 challenger plunges Ferrari to new depths.

Leclerc has completed his third full term as a Formula 1 driver and was one of the stronger performers throughout the season despite Ferrari’s worst result in 40 years. The Monegasque is the chosen one at Maranello, earmarked as the future of Ferrari and, maybe one day, be the driver to end their long-running title drought. Being held in such high regard could lead to some having a change in approach and attitude, but Leclerc does not understand any claims that he has become arrogant and said he is still as grounded as ever.

Ferrari have had a close relationship with Haas over the five years both teams have been on the F1 grid, supplying them with engines and even one of their Academy drivers for 2021 in the shape of Mick Schumacher. It was also recently announced that Ferrari’s chassis boss Simone Resta would be switching to Haas in a bid to boost their technical operation.

Sainz is joining the Scuderia as replacement for Sebastian Vettel, that move having been announced several months before the four-time former World Champion got himself fixed up with an Aston Martin drive for 2021. Speculation was widespread that this season Ferrari had put all their eggs in Leclerc’s basket, knowing Vettel was on his way out of the team, and even the German admitted he could not understand why his car appeared to be slower than that of his team-mate.
