Kentucky governor points to new sign of economic recovery

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) Gov. Andy Beshear on Wednesday pointed to another sign that Kentucky’s economy is recovering from the pandemic a credit rating agency’s upgraded assessment of the state’s financial outlook.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell dodged questions Wednesday about U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney s endangered leadership post in the House GOP and many Republicans baseless belief that the 2020 election wasn t valid.
He refused to address either topic during a short press conference in Georgetown, Kentucky, on Wednesday and instead stressed his opposition to President Joe Biden. One-hundred percent of my focus is on stopping this new administration, McConnell said.
That was his response after a Lexington Herald-Leader reporter asked if he planned to do anything to help Cheney keep her leadership role and if he was concerned that acknowledging the last presidential election was valid (as Cheney has) can be a liability for conservative politicians.

As other states adapt and improve, federal funds and a Democratic governor keep the Bluegrass State stuck in the past.
There must be some amount of detachment from reality required for a Democrat to serve as Kentucky’s governor.
Andy Beshear elected in large part as the polite alternative to his whip-smart, sharp-elbowed predecessor Matt Bevin is fighting a rearguard action with the barely resuscitated remains of the old blue-dog coalition that once reigned supreme in the Bluegrass State. Beshear’s buoyed by the partisan progressive moment in Washington, D.C. The federal-spending spigots, first opened in the initial fit of COVID panic, are now on full blast and drenching states with federal aid.
